Pool Volume & Chemical Calculator

Calculate your pool volume in litres and get the correct chemical dosing amounts to balance your water.

For circular pools, enter diameter

Average of shallow and deep end

e.g. 2 ppm chlorine increase

How to Use

1. Select your pool shape 2. Enter dimensions — for oval, enter length and width; for circular, enter diameter as "length" 3. Enter average depth (shallow end + deep end ÷ 2) 4. Select a chemical and desired increase in ppm

Target Ranges:

  • Free Chlorine: 1–3 ppm
  • pH: 7.2–7.6
  • Stabiliser (CYA): 30–50 ppm
  • Formula

    Rectangular Volume = L × W × D × 1000 | Chemical Dose = (Pool Litres ÷ 1000) × PPM needed ÷ Active %

    Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I shock my pool?

Weekly during summer, fortnightly in cooler months. Also after heavy rain, heavy use, or if algae appears. Shock with 5–10× normal chlorine dose.

    What is CYA (stabiliser) for?

Cyanuric acid protects chlorine from UV degradation. Without it, sunlight destroys chlorine rapidly. Target 30–50 ppm in outdoor pools.

My pool is 50,000L — how much chlorine?

    To raise chlorine by 2ppm: 50 × 2 = 100g active chlorine. Using 12.5% liquid: 100 ÷ 125 = 0.8 litres. Use this calculator for any volume.
